The long-term results of unrepaired tears of the posterior cruciate ligament.

چکیده
A group of 20 patients with ruptures of the posterior cruciate ligament treated either by early mobilisation or by plaster immobilisation is described. The functional results bore no relationship to the degree of laxity of the ligament and 18 of the 20 patients considered that their symptoms did not warrant the discomfort and inconvenience ofreconstruction ofthe ligament. It is suggested that many patients with posterior cruciate insufficiency have a good functional result, and that the place of routine repair of such injuries should be questioned.

Suture Repair of Full Radial Posterior Lateral Meniscus Tears Using a Central Midline Portal
Full radial posterior lateral meniscus root tears are frequently associated with injuries to the anterior cruciate ligament. Left unrepaired, they result in loss of the meniscus hoop stress function and can lead to overload of the lateral compartment and early degenerative changes. Arthroscopic suture repairs show successful results with long-term follow-up. However, previously described suture...
متن کاملPosterior Cruciate Ligament: Current Concepts Review
The posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) is the largest and strongest ligament in the human knee, and the primary posteriorstabilizer. Recent anatomy and biomechanical studies have provided an improved understanding of PCL function. PCLinjuries are typically combined with other ligamentous, meniscal and chondral injuries. Stress radiography has becomean important and validated objective measure in...
متن کاملPrimary Repair of the Anterior Cruciate Ligament: A Review of Recent Literature (2016-2017)
Background: Anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction using tendon or ligament autograft is the current goldstandard surgical technique for acute ACL ruptures. However, ACL repair surgical procedures are reappearing as anoptimistic treatment alternative for acute proximal ruptures. The purpose of this annotation is to review the current roleof primary repair of the ACL.<...
متن کاملLong-term failure of thermal shrinkage for laxity of the anterior cruciate ligament.
BACKGROUND Appropriate treatment for anterior cruciate ligament laxity, owing to partial tears of the native ligament or lax reconstruction, is unclear. Studies suggest that a significant percentage of these untreated tears may progress to complete tears or the patient may develop additional injuries to the meniscus or articular cartilage. Shrinkage of the ligament or graft using thermal energy...
متن کاملAccuracy of MRI in Comparison with Arthroscopic Findings in the Diagnosis of Anterior Cruciate Ligament and Meniscus Tears
Background: Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is of great aid in the diagnosis of knee lesions. Nevertheless, arthroscopy has remained the reference standard for the diagnosis of internal derangements of the knee, against which alternative diagnostic modalities should be compared. This study was designed to assess the value of MRI and clinical examination in the diagnosis of Anterior Cruciate Li...
